Some fun

Here are a few of the fun things we've been up to.

Shoe races.
To learn more about friction, the kids gathered various shoes from our closets and we had shoe races to see which shoes created the most friction?
The winner?
We were all surprised that this tiny sandal of Madison's was the winner.

Some things we learned about friction:
-the heavier an object is the less friction it creates. ( A grown man on a sled will go faster than a small child.)
-The greater the surface area of the object, the less friction it creates (Long skis go faster than short skis)
-friction creates heat (that's where rug burns come from)

Full of Hot Air

Another fun experiment. If you hold a hair dryer pointing up, you can "catch" and hold a balloon (or ping pong ball) in the air stream. This is how the sucking action from a tornado works.

Sandwiches on a stick

My neighbor told me about this fun lunch idea. You cut up all of the "ingredients" for a sandwich into bite size pieces and put them on a plate and give each kid a skewer. (We used white and wheat bread, three different cheeses, lunch meat, cherry tomatoes, pickles and grapes.) The kids LOVED it and have asked for it at least three times since.

Now that's a fort
Logan got a "fort building kit" for his birthday. The girls were even more excited about it and built an enormous "movie fort" the next day. They laid in the fort and watched a movie.

Pickin strawberries
Madison loves to search for strawberries when we're out side. She even picks the white ones and makes a sour face, but just goes back for more.
